Dual Battery Install

Everyone starts with the dual battery, so why be original?

Read everything I could find about this on the internet. Bought everything I though I would need, rolled up my sleeves and went to work.

If you want to work on your truck this is easy to do. All you need is a drill, screwdrivers and patience.

Now people also integrate a solar panel and a charge controller. I want to do this so BAD, will see if the time and money allows this before we leave.

Skip ahead to the photos because some boring tech info is coming.

Here is what you need for this:

  1. Figure out the battery that you will use – DieHard Marine Deep Cycle (x2)
  2. Where are you going to put them – on 2000 land cruiser both fit under the hood
  3. Get a battery tray
  4. Voltage sensitive relay – it disconnects the batteries during discharge to allow only one to drain ( Blue Sea MC-ACR)
  5. Circuit breaker to disconnect the power cable coming out of the second battery (Blue Sea 187-series 200A circuit breaker)
  6. Welding cable – it is flexible enough even at larger gauges
  7. Lugs, heatshrink, wire loom…
  8. Power bus (Positive + Ground) – Blue Sea 2722
  9. I put the power bus in the rear right of the truck and ran the cable through the firewall and under the carpet.

Haha, electrical work can be a pain. And usually causes a lot of problems for people. But if you take your time, it becomes simple. Let me know if you have any questions when you decide to build your car.
